The number 13 is synonymous with a baker's dozen, the cards in a deck's suit or, if you ask the Swift Universe, the lucky number tied to Taylor Swift. And there are lots of instances connecting the number to the pop star and Super Bowl 58.
If Taylor Swift attends the Las Vegas showdown, which she could, it will be the 13th Chiefs game she has watched in person this season. Super Bowl 58 includes two numbers that add up to 13. The date is February 11 (2+11) also adds up to 13. Swift will be in Tokyo performing the first leg of the 2024 Eras tour. The flight from Japan to Las Vegas is about 13 hours. The Kansas City Chiefs are playing the 49ers (4+9...you get the gist).
But why 13? It's considered unlucky in some cultures. There's also a fear of the prime number called triskaidekaphobia.
"I paint this on my hand before every show because 13 is my lucky number for a lot of reasons," Swift told MTV News in 2009. "I was born on the 13th. I turned 13 on Friday the 13th. My first album went gold in 13 weeks. My first #1 song had a 13-second intro. Every time I've won an award I've been seated in either the 13th seat, the 13th row, the 13th section or row M, which is the 13th letter."
You can go down a rabbit hole on the number 13 and social media and that's because, in several instances, when Swift makes an announcement or release, she does it on days that add up to 13.
- In 2019, "Lover" was released on August 23rd (8+2+3=13).
- In 2020, "Folklore" was released Folklore, was released on July 24th (7+2+4=13).
- In 2021, "Fearless (Taylor's Version)" was announced on February 11th (2+11=13) and was released on April 9th (4+9=13).
- In 2022, "Midnights" was released on October 21 (10+2+1=13).
She loves incorporating the number. Her "Eras Tour" blockbuster debuted in movie theaters on October 13, 2023, and on streaming services for her birthday December 13, 2023.
